Wrestling Contest at Mexborough

A wrestling contest took place the Empire. Mexborough. Saturday, between Harold Pears and William Holloway who met at catch-weights, in the catch as catch can style, for £50, the referee being Mr. Abram Travis (“Ab-o’-Wags”) “. three times wrestling champion of England. The men agreed to wrestle the best of 3 pin-falls.

Holloway throughout the first bout was on the defensive and repeatedly extricated himself from difficult position. Pears, however was very cool and scientific and at the end of fifteen 50 seconds, got the fall with of Nelson and a leg hold

Immediately the men got in holds again Pears and his man over with a flying thrown, and applied the half Nelson with a lightning movement, won the match. The second bout lasted 2m 25s.
