Both Worksop’s supporters and Mexboro’s were particularly interested in the game because of the bargain the clubs made the previous day. At mid-day on Friday, about five hours after the new was reported, Worksop completed the transfer of Stanley Taylor from Mexboro’ and his first game for Worksop was against his old colleagues. Rob Hill appeared for Mexboro’ for the first time this season and played as terling game.

Without doubt Mexboro’ were the better team in the first half and they therefore deserved the point which they ultimately gained. Throughout the game they were faster on the ball and more capable in developing dangerous movements. They used the better method. They are one of the best teams seen at Central Avenue this season and provided additional proof, if such were needed, of the improved standard of Midland League football. At no time was their half-back line subdued and with that vital section so adequately discharging their duties it was not surprising that the team were so forceful and persistent.

Despite their general first-half superiority I thought that Mexboro’s opening goal was, at that time, against the run of the play. Best was deceived by SHAW’S effort and the ball curled into the net. The inside-left had received a high centre from Hancock. Mexboro’s second goal was from the penalty spot. Enquiries after the match elicited the formation that the award was made because Sayles handled the ball, but in any event he was falling over at the time. KENNEDY scored with the kick. Best never saw the ball until he found’ it at the hack of the net!

Two goals down and opposed to a team playing really good football, Worksop set about their task in spirited fashion and the second half was only ten minutes old when the arrears were wiped out. K1TCHING got the first goal though Taylor did the donkey work, with the result that the centre-forward found himself clear of all opposition save Bromage and all the week, so to speak in which to heat in. He dribbled the ball to the goalkeeper, rounded him, then placed it in the net. TAYLOR‘S goal. which equalised the scores and instantly ended the rally, followed a bombardment of the Mexborough goal.
