Mexborough Again Unlucky.

Mexborough Athletic  0   Gainsborough Trinity  1

Mexborough Athletic were to lose the points to Gainsborough Trinity at  Mexborough, yesterday, but it was not so much due to bad finishing aa to the brilliant display of the Gainsborough defenders. Starkey scored the only goal of the game in the first half.

Mexborough were much the more impressive side, and the shooting of the forwards deserved success. Mobbs, Kell, and Harris kept the Mexborough attack at bay in the second half, and defended stubbornly to the end. Wheatley, Gregg, Moxon, Coleman, and Fleetwood were the pick of the Mexborough side.

Wombwell   1  Barnsley Reserves  2

Wombwell played a spirited game against Barnsley Reserves at Hough Lane, but were defeated 2—l. Barnsley fielded a strong side, which included several players with first-team experience, while Wombwell at the last minute had to substitute Bannister for Clarke back.

Wombwell had a good deal the opening stages, and it was against the run of the play when Chivers opened the scoring for Barnsley. Later the same player put them further ahead with neat header. Plav fell off somewhat in the second half, when Murden. (E.) scored for Wombwell.

Outstanding the home side were Briggs forward) and Hobson (back). The Barnsley defence took the honours, while Chivers was a clever forward.

Denaby United’s Splendid Win.

Scarborough  3  Denaby United  5

United gained well deserved 5—3 win over Scarborough, who gave their worst home display of the season.

The forwards were virile and accepted most of the chances that came their way. Defence lapses by Scarborough contributed to three of the the first half.

Black and Adams scored for Denaby, and Freer equalised with couple of capital goals.

Denaby United were clearly masters in the second half, when Wraith did the “hat trick,” while Tuckett got a consolation goal for Scarborough.

The home side gave a trial to a new centre forward, but he gave a disappointing display.
