Week-End Drunks

There was a light list to be disposed of. Wm. Hand, a fitter, of Conisboro’, charged with drunkenness on Sunday morning, admitted he was drunk, but added, amid considerable laughter, “but I don’t know whether it was yesterday; I was in the cells yesterday all day.”

—The Chairman: It was one o’clock on Sunday morning.

—A police officer said the prisoner was helplessly drunk and unable to walk.

—Fined 5s., including costs.

Two Irishmen who should have got out of the train at Mexboro’ but travelled on to Conisboro’, Ned O’Brien, and his brother James Patrick, denied having been drunk and disorderly at the Conisboro’ Station, but the evidence of P.C. Knowles was supported by Mr. Richards, the stationmaster. The prisoners created a disturbance because they had to pay the excess fare from Mexboro’ to Conisboro’, and had to be ejected from the premises.

—They were each fined 2/6 and the costs.

Chas. Hy. Watson, bricklayer, of Scuncoates, was fined 5s. for a similar offence at Mexboro’.
