Wedding – Sheldon & Blaydes

March 1949

Mexborough & Swinton Times – March 26, 1949

Mexborough Central Methodist Church was the scene of a pretty wedding on Saturday when two church members were married.

The bride was Miss Mavis Doreen Sheldon, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. E. Sheldon, 45, York Street, Mexborough, a member of the South Yorkshire Musical Comedy Society and an employee of the “South Yorkshire Times” and she was married to Mr. Donald Blaydes, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Blaydes, 13, Shelley Street, Mexborough.

The Rev. F. D. Marrat officiated at the choral service, at which the hymns “The Lord’s my Shepherd” and “Lead us Heavenly Father” were sung.

Given away by her father, the bride was in a Norman Hartnell model in white taffeta, with veil of Brussels lace and wreath of orange blossom. She carried deep red carnations, and was attended by Misses Irene Sheldon and Marion Firth in turquoise blue, Misses Muriel Blaydes and Jacqueline Jill in pink crepe, and a page boy, Tony Cobb, in white satin.

They all wore head-dresses of anemones. The bridegroom’s gift to the bridesmaids were china brooches and gold bangles. The bridegroom’s mother wore a powder blue two-piece with hat to tone, and the bride’s mother was in navy blue.

Best man was Mr. C. Blaydes, and groomsmen were Messrs. M. G. Burton and K. Edge.

A reception was held at the Park Hotel, following which Mr. and Mrs. Blaydes left for Southport.
