Two First Class Girl Guides

Mexborough has two First Class Girl Guides, Pat Andrews,(right) Alexandra Road, Mexborough and Cicely Booth, (left) Hampden Road, Mexborough, both of the 24th Rotherham Mexborough Open Company have successfully passed their tests, and Pat has also been selected to represent the district at the camp for the International Folk Dance Rally in London from July 11th to July t7th.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Some teasers of a first class Guide’s tests include cooking and serving, unaided, a two course dinner for a small number—indoors or out as chosen by the candidate, an understanding of a balanced menu, making a simple garment, darning, patching, the making of a timetable for the routine of a child for a day In summer or winter, keeping a group of children, or a child, happily occupied for an hour, going on foot for an expedition of not less than six miles, swim 50 yards, first aid, map reading, and possessing an intimate knowledge of the neighbourhood. The test is completed in six months.

The Guide movement has been established in Mexborough for 26 years and Miss Molly Cranidge is in charge of the local troop.
