Stone Throwing at Mexborough

John Tingle (17), David Shaw (16), and Joseph Riley (18), pit hands of Mexborough was summoned by Joseph William Earnshaw for wilful damage to a fence at Mexborough on April 6.

Joseph William Earnshaw said on April 16 went to Sheffield when he came back in the evening is garden fence was broken down. He inquired of his daughter who had done it, and in consequence of the statement she made to him he took out the summonses. He estimated the damage at 1/8 each.

PC Walker serves the summonses.

Annie Earnshaw, daughter of the complainant, said in a full six she saw the three boys in question throwing stones at the fence. They were throwing stones for about two hours.

Jane Elizabeth Earnshaw, wife of the complainant, said she had been out to work, when she came home the boys were throwing stones at the fence. Her daughter, told her the names, and said they had been throwing stones about two hours.

Tingle and Riley were each fined 1/–, and were ordered to pay the cost 9/– and the damages 1/8. Shaw was fined 5/– and the costs 9/– and 1/8 damages.
