Versatile Sportsman

L.A/C. James William Smith (22), son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Smith, of 89, Windhill Crescent, Mexborough, joined the R.A.F. in May, 1940, and is now serving in the Middle East. He was formerly employed at Messrs. Dale, Brown and Co., Ltd., Swinton.

A keen swimmer and footballer, he plays football for an R.A.F. team, and while stationed in England he represented the Royal Air Force in a swimming gala. In his schooldays he played football for Mexborough National School. L.A/C. Smith is enjoying life in the Middle East, where he has celebrated his 22nd birthday.

His brother-in-law, William Calladine, of Denaby, is serving with the R.A. in India, and his brother, Albert William Smith, was discharged from the R.A. as the result of an accident. He had been serving in the Forces for 14 months.
