Sgt. Sidney Gordon Reed (30), son of Mr., and the late Mrs. Reed, of 1, Dudley Road, Eastbourne, whose wife (formerly Miss L. Sylvester) lives at 28, Oliver Street, Mexborough, has been awarded the B.EM. for bravery in carrying out arduous tasks in the performance of his duty. He was serving in France and was severely burned about the face and shoulders while helping on a gun which blew up. The accident occurred a week after D-Day.

Mrs. Reed has received three letters from his officer telling her that the medal had been won, and his friends overseas wrote to her informing her that he had been burned.

He was in hospital eight weeks but is now recovered and expects to fly back to Holland soon.

Sgt. Reed has been in the Forces for 14 years, and served in France in 1940, While in the Army he has won medals and cups for cross country running and other athletic feats.
