Second Lieutenant George E.W. Pollard, died of wounds, in France on September 3. He was a son of the late Mr. C. Pollard and Mrs. Pollard, formerly of Swinton, later of Mexborough and now of Balby, Doncaster, and a brother of Mr: F. C. Pollard. journalist, formerly of the staff of this paper second Lieutenant Pollard had been serving almost throughout the war enlisting in the Wakefield territorial.
His home was at Newton Hill Wakefield, and he was a relieving officer under the Wakefield Union. He obtained his commission in January of this year, having been in France from December, 1916, to July, 1947, latterly with the rank of quarter master sergeant. He returned to the Front in June last year.
He was prominent in Yorkshire athletic, being a noted hockey player, and for 12 years was a member of the Yorkshire team. Shortly before the war he figured in English trials. He was founder and secretary of the Sandal Hockey Club. Wakefield, and a playing member of the Wakefield Cricket Club. He was also prominent in musical and amateur theatrical circles. He was 40 years of age, and leaves a widow and two children.
