Rotherham Town Flattered

Rotherham Town 4  Mexborough Town 0

Rotherham Town were flattered by the score of 4-0 in their favour over Mexborough Town at Clifton Lane yesterday afternoon. Mexborough were worth at least two goals, and ought to have obtained them in the first half, when they had the best of matters.

Town could do very little until Gibson, in surprising fashion, opened the scoring just before the interval. The local team showed more open play after the interval, and goals were registered by W. Harrison, Cutts (from a penalty), and Grierson.

Mexborough finished badly, and luck was also against them.

Wednesday Reserves’ Biggest Win of the Season.

Wednesday Reserves  8  Denaby United 0

Wednesday Reserves registered their biggest win of the season at Hillsborough, yesterday, when they beat Denaby United 8-0.

Denaby had not previously been defeated by such a large margin, although they have had seven goals scored against them on several occasions. The result might have been much larger had it not been for many brilliant saves made by Lee.

Brown a rather tall and well-built youth whom Wednesday secured from Frickley a short time ago, created a favourable impression at outside-left. His centres were very accurate, and his shots travelled with great force. Binney and Ruddock were rare workers, and appeared to be able to go through the Denaby defence whenever they chose to do so. Kean, Reed, and Levick. formed a strong half-back line, and Kell and Dunn made some good clearances.

On the Denaby side, Hamilton and Shuttleworth were the best of a poor forward line.

The goal scorers were: Binney (3), Ruddock (2), Taylor Capper and Brown.
