Rode Into Policeman

A fine of £1 was imposed by the Doncaster magistrates on Tuesday, on Geo. Bingham, a Mexborough labourer, for riding a bicycle dangerously at Sprotborough.

P.c. Archer said that on June 16th, he was standing in Sprotborough Lane, Sprotborough, talking with another cyclist, when defendant suddenly cashed into them.  Defendant was riding a racing cycle with drop handlebars.  The road at that point was 22 yards wide and there was no other traffic.

Defendant’s explanation was that he was tired.  When told he would be reported he said “It won’t cost much, will it.”
