Rescued a Crow

Terence Dunn (13) of Herbert Street, Mexborough with his carrion crow.

A 13 years old Mexborough scout has saved the life of a carrion crow. Terry Dunne, son of Mexborough Urban Council workman, Mr. Jim Dunne, of 22 Herbert Street. Mexborough, stopped some schoolchildren from killing the crow.

Terry kept the bird at his home for three days, and when he thought it was strong enough to fly away he let it go. Last year he tried save a jackdaw which had been shot, but the bird died the day after he had found it.

“We saw some children bashing its head against a wall,” Terry told the “South Yorkshire Time”, he was held by his best friend, Christopher Cooper, 96 Doncaster Rd, Mexborough.

Added Terry, who boxes for Mexborough Catholic Club, “We gave him some worms and milk. It was very tame; as soon as I let it go in jumped on my shoulder.

“As soon as I thought it was better we put it outside on the shed door, but it did not fly away. Even when we try to make it fly away in one he would not write first,” said Terry, who attends Wath Pope Pius School.

Terry, a member of the 7th Don and Dearne Scout group has kept hamsters and goldfish before, but nothing as big as this.

“We called him Tommy, and he would always come to our call. He was as happy indoors as outside, and now he’s gone we all miss him,” said Terry.
