Children’s Free Meals Grumble

The statement that a lot of the children who have come under the provision of free meals at Mexborough, were obviously not used to a  hot dinner and grumbled because they could not have chips and bread, was made at last night’s meeting of the Education Subcommittee.

The clerk (Mr. B. Stockdale) reported that during the month 1,323 meals had been supplied to 72 children.

Mrs. T.W. Whipp said that the children now appeared to settling down to their hot meals, which were very satisfactory and the service to the children was very good.

She added that the caterer informed her that the children did not take kindly to a joint, probably because they were not u»ed to it.

The clerk said that 103 children wore originally certified as in need of the meals, hut in 30 cases parents had given back word, and said they did not to avail themselves of the free scheme.
