Piano Success

After only four years of piano playing, 16 year old Iris Kirby, elder daughter of Mrs F.H. Kirby and the late Mr. F.W. Kirby, 12 Spencer Street, Mexborough, has won her A.V.C.M. (Associate of the Victoria College of Music).

In 1948 Iris was successful in the senior and advanced senior examinations, and she has already started, practising for the Licentiate of the Victoria College of Music.

If successful, she intends to sit for her F.V.C.M. her eventual ambition being to play in a large orchestra.

Her 14-years-old sister, Rita, is also interested in music, and has recently passed the intermediate examination.

Iris is employed as receptionist at the ” South Yorkshire Times,” and Rita attends Doleliffe Road School.
