Percy Beaumont
Signed For Mexborough

Percy Beaumont, the former Sheffield United and Barnsley centre half, was signed on Wednesday for the Mexborough football club.

Beaumont is a native of the town, and played for a Mexborough Junior club before being discovered by Sheffield United during the war.

He was signed on my Sheffield United at the age of 18, and had four successful season at Bramall Lane, being then transferred to Barnsley, with whom also he had five seasons. Last season he played with Southend.

He hopes to settle down in his native district, and for that reason has signed up with Mexborough, though he could probably have done better elsewhere.

Beaumont is a class centre half – brainy, speedy, and sturdy, and was a general favourite at Oakwell, where for a season or two he was recognised as the mainstay of the defence.

He still under 30, and of ideal built for the position – 5 ft 10 in and 12 stone. While at Southend he occasionally captained the side. The supporters of the Mexborough club will be happy to hear that his services have been secured. For the past two years the team has felt the need of a strong and versatile centre half.
