Obituary – Miss Doris Cotton.

Untimely Death of Trusted “Times” Employee

It is with deep regret that we record the death, which took place at 13, Clifffield Road, Swinton, on Saturday, of Miss Doris Cotton, a valued and trusted servant of the “South Yorkshire Times” Printing Company for over 23 years.

Miss Cotton who was 39, was the youngest daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. Joseph Cotton. Her family has lived in the district for over 33 years. A native of Rotherham, Miss Cotton came to Swinton as a child. She attended the Fitzwilliam Council School (then the National School) and finished her education at Mexborough Secondary School. On leaving there she came to work at the “Times” Office and from then onwards the ‘Times’ made up her whole life.

Miss Cotton started as a clerk in the printing department and later was transferred to the general office, where subsequently she became advertisement clerk. She was of the “nevercomplaining” type, and always carried out her work efficiently, always able to find time to give a cheery word to everyone with whom she came into contact.

Miss Cotton was loved and respected by her colleagues, the “Times’ workpeople, and business acquaintances, and her untimely death has come as a great shock to all who knew her.
