Notts County Res  0  Mexborough  1

Mexborough’s Good Performance at Nottingham. In defeating Notts County Res. at Meadow Lane, yesterday, Mexborough accomplished a very creditable performance. They were the best of two moderate teams, and, after once scoring midway through the first half, managed to hold the lead until the finish.

The home team were extremely disappointing. At the start Mexborough showed superior pace and understanding and in consequence did he bulk of the attacking, but Streets dealt with everything that came his way until at the end of 25 minutes Armitage snapped up a centre from the right and netted with a fine shot.

In the second half Notts were occasionally dangerous, but lacked the ability to finish.

Leaders’ Narrow Win at Wombwell

Wombwell Town  0  Worksop Town  1

Wombwell fielded a weak side against the leaders, Worksop, at Wombwell, yesterday before 1,200 spectators, and lost by a solitary goal scored inside the first ten minutes by Charlesworth.

The game was evenly contested, and a draw would have better represented the merits of the sides. Wombwell showed great, dash and energy, particularly in the forward line, and, taking the game all through, did most of the pressing, but lacked finish. Worksop’s goal was very cleverly obtained. From a centre by Amos, Charlesworth put in a magnificent screw shot which completely deceived Colin Kilner in goal.
