Mexborough Give Trial To Outside-Left At City Ground.

Nottingham Forest Res met Mexborough on the City Ground this afternoon before a small number spectators.

Mexborough had one player on ‘trial in Smith, who appeared at outside-left.

Nottm. Forest Reserve—Dexter; Marsden, Turner; Green, Morgan, Sturton; Bulling, McMillan, McLachlan, Price, and W. Davis.

Mexborough.—Bromage; Burkinshaw, Davis; Sylvester, Kennedy, Saxton; Ashton, Taylor, Beaumont, Shaw, and Smith.

ref: J. W. Worksop.

The spin of the coin went in favour of the Forest, who were soon attacking. Their centreforward put across a good shot iust a shade too far for Davis to reach, and a moment later McMillan and McLachlan tested Bromage with good shots. For a period there was sustained pressure on the part, of the home side. Bulling sent in curling shot which the goalkeeper deftly handled, and McMillan was responsible for a good drive. The visiting left wing showed speed and understanding, and Smith was just out of his reckoning with_ a left foot shot. There had been half an hour’s play before Dexter’s services were seriously called upon, and then rose to the occasion in turning aside a- fast shot from Smith.

A minute before the Interval Beaumont scored for Mexborough. If

Play was resumed without the services of Ashton. who just before the interval was carried off with an ankle injury. McLachlan made capital individual effort, but when put the ball across to Bulling, the latter’s response was poor. Interest was revived by corner kick, which was punched away by Dexter, and a good ground shot McMillan. Though the Forest played a bustling game there was too much of short passing.

Ashton’s return was signalised a sharp attack by the home left, in which Davis was chief participant, Bromage saving. Morgan put over a shot which might have yielded a goal a little more iudgment had been used. A drive by Beaumont was tipped over the bar the home custodian.
