New Milk -Bar
Up-To-Date Mexborough Venture
For Sociability And Health
The scene at the opening of Mexborough’s New Milk Bar on Saturday.
Miss Joyce Mee, the Cheshire Dairy Queen officially opened the new Mayfair Milk Bar in High Street, Mexborough, on Saturday morning, and without more ado many of those present, including several Mexborough councillors tasted some of the very tempting milk shakes and milk cocktails that the bar has to offer.
Ideas for making the public more milk-conscious, including the suggestion that ladies should try milk for slimming, while athletes should drink milk for muscle building were put forward and Miss Mee expressed the hope that the public would assist that world famous product of her county—Cheshire Cheese by purchasing it at the new milk bar.
The milk bar has been well patronised since the opening and it seems likely that the milk habit will be adopted by many local people.
Modern Design.
The bar is extremely modern in appearance and no effort has been spared in converting the former shop into a clean, spacious, and inviting bar, and cafe. The large windows make it light and airy and the room at the back of the bar is luxuriously fitted with modern steel and leather chairs and neat tables. The service in the bar is prompt and there is a large variety of food drinks for the milk and soft drink addict.
The bar is owned by Messrs. Nicholsons of Sheffield and there is no doubt that Mexborough residents will benefit in health from Messrs. Nicholson’s initiative in providing the town with this popular modern type of cats.
“Drink More Milk”
The craze for milk bars has swept throughout the country until every town of importance can boast of having at least one. Government propaganda and Milk Marketing Board adverts shout at one from every hoarding—”Drink More Milk”. Milk bars, it seems, are destined to do their share in making us a healthier nation by making an ordinary drink of milk into a delicately flavoured ‘shake’ or a tempting ‘cocktail’.
Over one thousand milk bars have been opened in this country since the idea spread from Canada, Australia and the States, but the people of Mexborough need no prompting to drink milk.
The Milk bar will probably give a further impetus to the cafe-frequenting type of social behaviour. Business men will find a mid-morning break for a glass of milk an excellent idea. Before and after the break they will work all the better and they will be not only refreshed but may also do no inconsiderable amount of business over their refreshers.
