Nasty Talk at Mexborough
Joseph Stead and John Brooks, miners, of Mexborough, were summoned for having used abusive language at Mexborough on the 17th inst.
PC Farr said on the date named he was on duty at 11:40 pm, in company with PS Forman and Inspector Watson, in the market Place, Mexborough, when they saw Brooks and Stead quarrelling and wanting to fight. They were making use of very abusive language, and there was a crowd of about 40 or 50 people round. They were spoken to about their conduct.
Police Sergeant Forman corroborated and Stead, who appeared, was fined 2/6 and 9 shillings costs, and Brookes and did not appear 5 shillings and 11 shilling costs.

Julia Josiah Brooks, Tripe dealer, of Mexborough, was also summoned for having used, on the 17th instant abusive language.
