More Financial Support Wanted.

Mexborough Athletic have sent in their resignation to the Midland League. This step does not necessarily mean that the club will sever its long connection with that competition, but it has been taken a precautionary measure, and will operate unless further financial support is forthcoming to the club.

This season about nine members the Management Committee have been guarantors for £250, and, in addition, have recently paid £2OO cash into the bank to ensure the fulfilment of obligations to the end of the season. The revenue has not met expenditure, notwithstanding the economical nature of the latter.

The position has been eased a great deal the fees recently forthcoming through the transfer of Bungay to Huddersfield and of Wassall to Sheffield Wednesday, and the present deficit will be reduced further if Bungay shows proficiency with his new club.

The Great Essential.

Mexborough have only two or three home matches remaining this season, and, although the financial position is embarrassing, it is by no means beyond redemption. But the essential requirement of the immediate future is the assistance of others to fulfil financial responsibility and bring more financial support. It is to be hoped that the crisis will bring the response required, and that moans will be found to permit Mexborough to withdraw their resignation and to remain in the Midland League.
