United beat Corinthians

Denaby United, despite their mid-week cup tie exertions, defeated Loughborough Corinthians at Denaby 4—1 before 1,500 spectators.

They were much too speedy for the visitors. In the first half Denaby gained a three-goal lead through Jenkins, Turner, and Hunter (own goal). In the concluding half Green increased Denaby’s lead and Belton got through for the visitors

Denaby were strong in all departments.

A draw of one each was a fair reflex the game at Oakwell on Saturday between Barnsley Reserves and Wath Athletic. With the wind and sun in their favour Wath had the better of matters in the first half and took the lead through Richards, who miskicked and placed the ball in his own goal. In the second half Wath were penned in their own quarters, and Barnsley drew level through Gibbs, who scored with fine twenty yards drive.

Barnsley were awarded “penalty” for hands, but Whittaker made a brilliant save from Atkinson’s kick.

Wombwell in Splendid Form.

The Forest defence had a gruelling day at Wombwell, and but for their stubborn work the visitors would have suffered a heavy defeat : as it was, Wombwell won 3 —1. Goucher and Marsden, the Forest backs, were in excellent form, and Dexter in goal gave nothing away. For Wombwell, the wingers, Bramley and Truswell, the latter particularly, showed excellent form. The feature of the game was the splendid work of the Wombwell halves. Truswell, Adey and Pardon scored for Wombwell, and Venters for the Forest.

Mexborough Surprise Newark.

Mexborough were extremely lucky to force a 3-3 draw at Newark. Three minutes from the end they were two goals behind, but they took advantage of a temporary relaxation on the part of the home backs, and actually drew level in the last minute the game. Hoddinott (two) and Evans scored for Newark. Briggs (two) and Tilbrook for Mexborough. flattered the visitors. James scored for the visitors in the first half and Mitchell increased tho lead a few minutes from the end.
