Mexbro’ Council’s New Clerk
Mexborough Council have appointed Mr. Robert Brewis Davison as Clerk to the Council in succession to Mr. Frank Bailey with effect from November 1st. Meanwhile, from September 1st, he is acting as Clerk Designate.
Mr. Davison entered local government in 1935, when he was attached to the Accounts Department of Mexborough Council. Three years later he succeeded Mr. Corbridge as Rating and Valuation Officer. In 1943 the Council’s part-time Solicitor clerk was taken ill and Mr. Davison was appointed Deputy Clerk. He retained the position of Rating Officer although he no longer made collections, but was responsible for the issue of summonses, court work, and keeping in touch with Inland Revenue.
Mr. Davison has lived in Mexborough since 1923. He and his wife now live in Church Street. They have two children, Margaret and Robert (junior), both of whom are married.
