Tributes to the miraculous transformation effected by unemployed men at premises in Barron’s Yard, Mexborough, were paid Saturday at the opening of the Mexborough Social Service Centre.

The Mexborough Centre was “adopted by the National Insurance Audit Department, who provide a steady income for the progress of handicrafts, and the secretary of that body. Mr. W. Trueblood performed the opening ceremony.

Professor F.C. Lee, chairman of the South Yorkshire Advisory Council, and Mr. L. J. King, secretary, expressed appreciation of the valuable work which had been achieved at Mexborough and the latter said it provided the answer those people who declared that the unemployed could do nothing.

Mr. A. Shaw, chairman the D C., also added his tribute to the efforts of the members of the Centre. Mr. C. P. Tiptaft, chairman of the Centre committee, presided.
