The photograph below, which was kindly loaned to us by Mr. Jack Fletcher, of Gladstone Terrace, Mexborough, shows the Mexborough football team  of 62 years ago which won the Midland League and were runners-up in the Yorkshire League in the 1897-8 season.

Among those pictured here are: (Top row), Mr. W. Harrison (trainer), H. E. Bennett (captain), A. Tyas, G.Hardie, J. Platt, E. Whitehouse, J. Whitehouse and J.Roberts.

(Bottom row), T. Roberts, A. Roberts, W. Hemingfield, Frank Mawson and Fred Mawson.

The medal (right) which was presented to the late Mr. Jack Hawcroft, of Mexborough, a committeeman, has been loaned to us by well-known Kilnhurst referee, Mr. Arthur Hawcroft, 50, Caen() Street, who received the medal from his own father, Mr. Arthur Hawcroft, of Highthorne, Kilnhurst, Mr. Jack Hawcroft was Mr. Arthur Hawcroft, sen.’s uncle.
