Did Not Attend For “Medical”
Mexborough Man Fined £5
For failing to submit himself to medical examination, Victor F. C. Hoskin (25), of Regent Terrace. Dolcliffe Road, Mexborough, was fined £5 at Doncaster Borough Police Court on Wednesday.
An order was made for him to be kept in custody until he can be taken before a medical board.
Prosecuting. Mr. W. L. Crawford, said Hoskin had already been before a tribunal, and was accepted as a conscientious objector on condition that he remained employed as a van driver. He had stated at that time that he was a van driver, but then it was ascertained that he had never been one.
Hoskin told the magistrates that he wanted to remain “entirely neutral.” He said he had been a spare time driver, but lost the job when they did not need him. Since then he had been gardening near home.
