Mexborough Footballer for Barnsley

Percy Beaumont, the clever young centre-half, who has been with Sheffield United several seasons, and for the last two ‘seasons has made his name in First football, was last Saturday transferred to Barnsley.

Beaumont was “nursed” at Mexboro”, and played for Mexboro’ Thursday, and later for Mexborough Rovers. He assisted the Rovers to win three cups.

He signed for Sheffield United shortly before the war and had his war service counted, he would’ have been entitled to a benefit next season. Instead, he will take a portion of his transfer fee to be paid by Barnsley to Sheffield United.

Beaumont has not been too happy at Bramall Lane, and it is the general opinion here that he will do much better at Oakwell.

He has speed and brains, and a better shot than most half-backs. Several Southern clubs, including Watford, Crystal Palace and CheIsea have been after him
