Mexborough Boy’s Damages

Knocked Down by Bus Driver Who Was in Hurry.

A claim for £55 ss. 6d. was made at the Doncaster County Court yesterday by John Wain, on behalf of his son, Arthur Herbert Wain (17), of Foundry Street, Mexborough, for damages alleged to have been sustained by him through the alleged negligent driving of a servant of Jane Evans, widow, of South Street, Bolton on-Dearne, motor-bus proprietor.

Mr. Donald Dunn for plaintiff, said the boy was cycling along Swinton Road, under the Manvers Bridge, and was knocked down by defendant’s bus.

When the driver of the bus told the complainant of the accident he said; “I have run your boy down. I was in a hurry to beat the trackless to get another bus load of men to take back to Mexborough.”

Mr. W. Bracewell, for the defendant, said the driver of the bus thought the boy lost his head and instead of keeping to his left, turned towards his right.

His Honour, Judge Hilyard made award of £2O for the plaintiff.
