Mexborough Forward’s Hat Trick” Against Newark.

Mexborough Athletic, home, gained an easy and well-deserved 3-0 victory over Newark Town. Mexborough’s goals were scored by Fleet wood, who was always a menace to the hardworking but unequal Newark defence.

In the home defence Annables was conspicuously good, Greig, the usual left-back, was not a success at centre-forward. Bolan and Oxley also did good work for Mexborough, and McLean was the most prominent Newark player.

Denaby Again Defeated.

Three Midland League games were played yesterday, the most important, as regards the table, being that between Barnsley Res. and lowly Denaby United at Oakwell. Barnsley won 2 – 1 .

The wind, to some extent, handicapped the players, and there was little good play In the first half- Wraith struck the Barnsley bar, but there was more danger at the other end. Early in the second half, Wraith converted a penalty kick, given against Rodger for “hands,” but Barnsley rallied their forces. Strutt, Dodworth youth trial, continued to play after a bad injury. Chivers scored twice in the last ten minutes to give Barnsley the victory.

Green, Strutt, Smith. Rodger, and Holmes were prominent for Barnsley, and Brannan, goalkeeper, Taylor, Smith, and Wraith for Denaby.
