Mexborough Athletic wound up their home season losing 4—3 to Grimsby Town Reserves. Grimsby showed the cleverer methods against dashing side. Sensational goal scoring marked the first half, during which Fleetwood and Coleman (two), one from a penalty, scored for Mexborough, and Craven (two) and Glover for Grimsby.

In the second half Coleman missed a penalty for Mexborough and Craven completed his “hat trick.” Prominent players were Fleetwood, Bolan, Best, Wheatley, and Greig, for Mexborough, and Glover for Grimsby.

Gainsborough  3  Denaby United 2

Denaby United twice held the lead at Gainsborough in Trinity’s last home match, but Trinity won 3—2. Denaby were rather lucky to escape a much heavier defeat. Wraith scored for Denaby, and Starkey equalised, but Wraith added a second before half-time.

In the second half Trinity were easily the better side, and Ashton and Robinson added further goals.

Wombwell  2  Newark  1

Although having only nine men for part of the second half, Wombwell defeated Newark by 2—1 at Wombwell. Murden was earned off with a leg injury and Jones (R.) had his head split in a collision. Jones played the last 15 minutes in head bandages.

All the goals were scored in the first half, Ashmore and Jones (R.) netting for Wombwell, and Diamond for Newark.

Wombwell had the better of the first half, but finished weakly. Sykes played cleverly for Wombwell at centre half-back, while the backs, Pearson and Yorke, were Newark’s best men.
