Mexborough Athletic wound their home League programme by beating York City, who led 3-1 half-way, 4 —3. It was a fine recovery and a worthy win, witnessed by 1,500 spectators. .

Mexborough led off with a goal by Davis, and then York put on three through O’Cain (2) and Clayton. Then came Mexborough’s reassertion, in which Davis and Dent equalised matters, and Dent notched the decider.

York showed capable football, but Mexborough, with Hetherington reappearing at outside left, were value for their win.
