Mexborough 4. Frickley 0 – Mexborough Too Good for Frickley

10 April 1928

Sheffield Independent – Tuesday 10 April 1928

Mexborough 4. Frickley 0

Mexborough were too good for Frickley at road, yesterday. They kept up the welcome improvement form which enabled them to turn the tables on Saturday.

Frickley were rarely seen in the attack, and their defence was not good enough to keep out the Mexborough forwards, of whom Higginbottom, Bramley and Newton played well.

Sam Kennedy played his usual robust game at centre-half, and a new left half. Wright, proved a useful player both in attack and defence.

Bromage was absent from goal, and the last moment Beaumont, the ex-Barnsley back, who had gone to watch remained to play and took the place.

The goals came from Bramley and Briggs in the first half, and Shaw (penalty) and Higginbottom after the interval.

The crowd numbered about 2,500.
