Mexborough 2 Lincoln City Res 4 – Lincoln Worthy Winners

October 1927

Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Monday 31 October 1927

Lincoln City Reserves were worthy winners 4—2 at Mexborough before 3,000 spectators on Saturday.

The first half produced good fast football, with Lincoln displaying the smarter methods both attack and defence. Hamilton and Osgerby scored for Lincoln, and Cook and Shaw replied for Mexborough, the teams crossing over on level terms.

In the second halt Lincoln’s superiority was marked and Keeton and Edwards added to their total.

Mexborough were disappointing only the halfback line being up to the standard. The defence was ragged and without understanding, only Davis giving good display. The forward line was not strengthened by the inclusion of Cook, a Newhill junior, though his goal was the best of the match. Both wings were poor.
