The Don Valley “Derby.”

Mexborough  2  Denaby  0

Before 2,000 people at Mexborough, yesterday, Denaby suffered another set-back, but only after a keenly-contested match.

Mexborough were weakened by the absence of David Murray and Andy Davidson, while Denaby displaced Bisby for Cockerill. There was no score at the interval, though Mexborough had the balance of play, and were distinctly unlucky on two occasions.

After Robinson had repelled a great shot from Tompkins Connelley headed over the bar a lovely centre by Wathey. Denaby took up the running, hut the inside men, Dodsley and Cockerill, were too slow, and Buddery, who tried very hard, received no material assistance.

In the second half Mexborough scored twice, Connellev obtaining both points, the first following good work by “Charlie Vickers, and a lovely pass by Gladwin, while the second cannoned into the net when Robinson attempted to kick clear.
