Mexborough defeated in English semi-final

the old evil of Association schools football, the disparity in size was never more exemplified than at Mexborough this morning, when in the semi-final at the English Schools Shield. North Staffs, secured an amazing victory over the home team by 4-0

Mexborough ware superior in every department at the game, save in goal. Hawkins, the North Staffs goalkeeper, was the biggest elementary schoolboy of 14 years ever seen in the district. If not quite 6ft, he was not more than inch below.

He defied the efforts of the Mexborough forwards an halves for 70 of the 70 minutes, and in the remaining ten minutes the North Staffs team made swift breakaways and scored four goals, through Micklin (3) and Bollington.

The losers played glorious football in the first are, but Hawkins prevented them from taking a dominating lead.
