Mexboro’ Attack Too Much For Newark

Mexboro’ 4, Newark 1

MEXBORO’: Bromage. Burkinshaw, Kennedy; Sylvester, Beaumont, Saxton; Ashton, Davis, Taylor. Shaw, Vollans.

NEWARK: Jennings; Dallison. Hardy; Lambley. Challoner, Fenwick; Dovey, Allen, Hart. spray. Copley.

Referee: J. W. Tomlinson, Worksop.

The Mexboro’ attack gave a highly satisfactory display on Saturday on their first appearance this season before a, Hampden Road crowd. Stanley Taylor was in great form and the Newark defenders never got over the shock he delivered a few seconds after the kick-of. Laurie Burkinshaw had lost the toss and straight from the kick-off Vollans was set moving to centre neatly and Taylor (picture) volleyed in one of his characteristic shots.

The unsteadiness which afforded Mexborough this early morning marked the work of the Newark backs throughout the game and Young Jennings. the Lincoln junior in goal should not ho too harshly judged as he was set poorly covered. He certainly might have made a better effort with two shots that beat him later in the game,  but he made some good saves. Still, the Newark defence was not good; it was probably seen at its worst because the Mexborough attack was so good.

Though every member of the line did good work Taylor was the dominating figure.
