Only Ten Wickets At Mexboro’.

Though the match at Hampden Road on Saturday produced 336 runs it was a tame affair. Mexborough made a sorry beginning, losing two wickets for. 30 runs, Burkinshaw’s and Ambler’s. Burkinshaw was out to a keenly disputed ruling. Broadhead and Carr pulled the side round and took the total to 148 before Carr skied a ball to Steel. Both he and Broadhead were given a “life.” Broadhead sent an easy catch to Walsh when only 5 and Carr was missed by the same player in the outfield when 21. Mexboro’ batted nearly three hours for their 216.

Hakin and White opened cautiously for Rawmarsh and the first 30 minutes produced less than 20 runs. Hakin scored freely afterwards and gave no chance in his innings of 58. Steel took 3 wickets for 69 and Smith 3 for 45. Ambler was Mexboro’s most successful bowler with 2 for 15. Day did not take a wicket but bowled 10 overs, 5 of which were maidens, and had only 12 runs scored off him.
