Hurricane Hitting.

Fast Scoring By Brook At Mexboro’

After being held up by rain for over two hours on Monday, the match between Mexboro’ and South Kirkby had to be abandoned owing to bad light. Mexboro’, who were without Broadhead who was away with the Colts, took first knock and matters opened disastrously for them. Burkinshaw and Carr were dismissed when 14 were on the board, but then Brook partnered Ambler.

Brook was only at the crease for just over 15 minutes but in that time by hurricane hitting, he scored 59, which included ten boundaries and two sixes—one going into the tennis courts.

Through Brook’s whirlwind hitting, Mexboro’ were in the favourable position of 103 for 3 when rain stopped play,  resuming shortly after six o’clock, the South Kirkby bowlers, Nuttall and Malthouse, found the wicket to suit them, especially Malthouse who in that period took 4 wickets for 8 runs. His figures for the snatch were 4 for 40. Nuttall had 5 for 34, this last six Mexborough batsmen only producing 15 runs. Hopson and Capstick had hit up 30 for the loss of no wicket when Hopson appealed against the light and the umpires upheld the appeal. Scores:
