Mexborough Heavily Beaten.

Leicester Fosse Reserves 8  Mexborough Town  0

Wretched conditions prevailed for this match at Leicester, and there were less than one thousand spectators.

Winning the toss, the Fosse had a wind and driving rain behind them and in the first quarter of an hour they did almost what they pleased and scored four goals. Osborne put on a couple in the first four minutes and with the Mex.borough defence for a time completely demoralised, he quickly completed his hat trick. Then King got No. 4.

Fosse kept up the pressure for a while, and the Mexborough goal had several narrow escapes, but towards the interval the visitors improved. Once Tomlinson sent behind and later when Wright had left his charge and failed to stay a Mexborough rush, Roberts of Leicester St. Andrew s, who was being given a trial nipped back and made a clever clearance. Later Wathey put across the mouth of the Fosse goal, but halftime arrived with the Fosse still leading 4-0.

In the second half Fosse continued to have the better of matters. Warburton and King each added a couple of goals, the Latter, like Osborne, therefore completing his hat trick.

From first to last Mexborough were outclassed though they were somewhat unfortunate to be beaten pointless, as two at least of their breaks away cone very near success.

Rounds kept goal fairly well considering the slippery state of the ball and the ground, but the rest of the visitors defence did not shine.
