Leeds City Reserves  5 Mexborough Town  0

Leeds City Reserves defeated Mexborough Town at Elland Road by the substantial margin of five clear goals the Mexborough men were all together outclassed, and never threatened to make even a decent fight.

The home forwards especially Gillespie, Foley and Cunningham – were in great form. Gillespie the Reserves’ centre, found the net thrice, and Foley once, while Cowley, the burley centre half brought the afternoons scoring to a close with a penalty awarded for a file on Foley.

Little that is good can be said of Mexborough, whose method, compared with those of their opponents, were most crude. Murray and Hargreaves had a sorry time against Foley and Cunningham.

Rounds might save the first goal, but he had little chance with the rest. Tomkins, the old Leeds City man, occasionally did some useful work, but as a side Mexborough were decidedly weak.
