Laurie Burkinshaw’s Century

The other century of the week was, by Laurie Burkinshaw at Shaw Lane, Barnsley on Wednesday. He hit 109 and produced his best piece of work this season.

It was, in fact, the first time he had got going and it was a very welcome event for Mexborough. His continual failure with bat and ball was giving some concern.

The side had not a good time during the holiday. They allowed a weakened Doncaster side to get on top of their attack on Saturday and had to be content with a draw; at Hull on Monday they gave a disappointing display all round and were well beaten; and on Tuesday Bolton mastered their attack and left them no alternative.

Mexborough v. Doncaster Town. At Mexborough.

Doncaster Town declared 6.30 p.m. with their score at 223 for seven wickets. With two hours to get the runs Mexborough batted carefully, and, thanks chiefly to a fine stand by Kilner and Broadhead, they compiled 148 for five when time was called. Broadhead carried his bat with 73 runs. Scores;
