Mexborough Man Bound Over

A 32 year old Mexborough miner, George Graves, was bound over for twelve months and ordered to pay 8s. costs at Doncaster on Saturday for obstructing a policeman in the execution of his duty, and for using obscene language.

P.c. Wrigglesworth said he was on duty at 10-45 p.m. on July 21st in West Street, Mexborough, with P.c. Lyon. They were called to a disturbance in Flowitt Street. Defendant came up in an excited manner land said “I want a word with you. you clever –.” Defendant was told to be quiet and go away. Witness said he then went about two yards, when defendant gripped his left arm and pulled him round and used more obscene language. He refused to go away and be quiet until witness threatened to lock him’ up.

P.c. Lyon corroborated.

Defendant, who pleaded not guilty, said he had heard the disturbance and went to the policeman with the intention of telling him about it. He never used bad language.
