Mr.Laycock, who has been assistant secretary and cashier of the Bradford Royal infirmary, since 1930, was appointed from a shortlist of three. Originally there had been a shortlist of four but one of the candidates withdrew at last minute.

Mr Laycock was educated at the Calton secondary school, Bradford. And on leaving joined the secretarial staff of the Bradford Royal infirmary. He has since filled practically every position on the secretarial staff, and since his appointment as assistant secretary and cashier has supervised the administration of the hospital during the absence of the governor and secretary.
