Honours Degree

Miss Christine Metcalfe, 21-vears-old daughter of Mr and Mrs. John Metcalfe, of

“Romani” Church Street, Mexborough, has gained her B.Sc. Degree (2nd Class Honours) in Botany at Manchester University.

She was a pupil at Mexborough Grammar School, from 1949 to 1956 and from her results at Advanced Level examinations, which included a Distinction in Chemistry, she was awarded an Exhibition to Manchester University three years ago.

Christine, who successfully competed at local musical festivals, gained a Distinction in examinations of the Royal Schools of Music (Final Grade) for pianoforte, and was offered a scholarship to the Royal Schools of Music. She has been accepted at London University for a further one year course for the Diploma of Education, and will start in September.
