Hippodrome – “Family Affairs”

March 1929

Paul Thomson in “Family Affairs.”

There is an old saying that relations are best apart, and another which says, Keep out of family affairs,” but both these sayings go to the wind when one is witnessing Paul Thomson’s “Family Affairs,” which comes to the Hippodrome next week.

If the press reports from most of our leading cities can be accepted, then certainly the first of the above sayings is not right, for relations crowd together and families come “en. bloc” when they have heard what a family entertainment “Family Affairs” is.

This scintillating piece is certainly away from the ordinary revue, inasmuch as it contains a plot, dealing with the adventures of “Horace and Norman,” and no one could possibly imagine a more droll and simple maker of mirth than Paul Thomson as “Horace.” He is mirth personified, and as a surprise he gives an exhibition of dancing which equals his inexhaustible repertoire of clean and original jokes.

Another clever comedian is Little Wally Muff and others in the cast include Belle Harrison, Ernest Pitt, and the famous piano-accordion player, “Baletti.” Sadie Forster is a bright soubrette who always goes well, and the famous Soho Dancers give some clever dancing.
