Mexboro’ Crumble Up at Grimsby.

Grimsby Town Reserves 5  Mexborough Town  2

Grimsby Reserves and Mexborough provided an interesting game at Grimsby yesterday.

Cutts gave Mexborough the lead after ten minutes, and Hill put on a second after half an hour, but a few minutes later Miller reduced the lead. Miller equalised from a penalty just before the interval.

The second half was uneventful until about 15 minutes from the close, when Miller scored cleverly. A couple of minutes later Graver also netted. This was followed by a penalty, from which Miller scored his fourth goal.

Wombwell Half-backs Score.

Wombwell 2 Denaby United 0

An exciting game, in which brain-work was a big factor, saw Wombwell turn the tables upon Denaby United at Wombwell yesterday and win 2-0.

Denaby fielded the same side as that which beat the Hough Laners 5-1 at Denaby on Monday, but Wombwell had Parton for Pascoe in the forward line, with the brothers Ward at back. On the whole there was not a lot to choose between the two sides, both showing determination and a high degree of skill. Wombwell owed a good deal to the magnificant display of Johnson in goal, while the side was well supported by the half-backs. Curiously enough, both Wombwell’s goals came from the half-back line, Sykes netting in the first half and Dawber in the second, Ekins having no chance with either shot.

Wombwell’s form had improved beyond comparison with their work of the day before. Denaby were handicapped through the loss of Hamilton, who was injured early on and had. to leave the field altogether midway through the second half.

Wath Win Keen Match.

Wath Athletic  2  York City  0

At Wath, the Athletic quite overplayed York, and fully deserved their 2-0 victory.

Though both sides had played four games in five days, they put a wonderful amount of vigour into the game.

In the first half, the home forwards combined well, but crowded too much in front of goal, so that Hendry was .not seriously troubled.

After the interval, Hendry saved a penalty, but a few minutes later Ball hanged in a first-tinier, and Shaw put his side further ahead.
