Mr and Mrs George Brammer

the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs George Brammer, of 57, Hartley St, Mexborough is celebrated on Sunday.

Mr George Brammer was the eldest son of Mr Thomas Brammer, an earthenware printer employed at the old Rockingham Pottery, Swinton and was born in the year 1843, at Kilnhurst.

He was brought to Mexborough in infancy, and was an apprentice, in 1865, at the Rock Pottery, Bank Street, Mexborough, under the management of Mr Charles Bullock and superintendent of Mr John Reid.

He was afterwards transferred to the Don pottery Swinton, which was under the management of Messrs Barker brothers. Later he served for some time at the Rockingham Pottery, Swinton.

He was a very pleasing singer and possessing natural auto voice. He was a canister in the Mexborough Parish Church for upwards of 30 years, successively under Mr Hobson, sister of the then incumbent Miss Lockwood, Miss E Barker, Mr Smith, Mr Tandy and Mr Ackroyd. Through the Mr GM Colmes, and held that position for many years. He was one of the old Mexborough Glee party.

In later years he was employed by Mrs Thomas Baron Ltd as overlooker for a period of 40 years. He retired through Hill Elsom four years ago.

Mrs Brammer was the second daughter of Mr George Roddy’s, was foreman for many years for Messes car and Turner of the Mexborough Quarry.

Mr and Mrs Brammer were married at the Mexborough Parish Church in November for 1867, the Rev Henry Ellis Short officiating.

Their family includes two sons and three daughters and 13 grandchildren

The funeral took place yesterday at Mexborough  of Mr. George William Brammer,  aged 74, for forty years in the service of Messrs.  Thomas Barron, Ltd., Phcenix Glass Bottle  Works Mexborough. and for thirty years a  member of the Mexborough Parish Church  choir.

The funeral service was fully choral, the  Rev. E. Hope, Vicar of Mexborough, officiating.
