MIDLAND LEAGUE.

Trinity Player Sent Off— Another Injured.

Wombwell  3  Gainsborough Trinity  1

There were unpleasant happenings in the midland League match between Wombwell and Gainsborough Trinity at Wombwell yesterday, which contest Wombwell won by three goals to one.

The game was “marred by a good deal of bad fouling, and in the end the referee, Mr. C. Barton (Nottingham) had to give marching to Mills, the visiting outside-right. But he was not the only player who should have been off. On one occasion two opponents were the ground fisting each other.

In the second half there was desperate tussle, and many players were limping before the end.

Just before the sending-off incident, Adamson, Gainsborough centre-forward, had to be carried off with slight concussion, having been in the face by the ball when a defender was clearing.

With a much changed team Wombwell gave a fine display, the forwards showing a rare pace and dash. Jack Waring, a stocky little centre forward, got two goals. Ellis scored the other, Starky scored for Trinity, who finished with nine men.

Frickley Colliery lost two vital points in their match with Mexborough, who, after being outplayed for three-quarters of the game, won 3 – 2.

Gibson and Mundy scored for Frickley in the first 20 minutes, Fleetwood reducing the arrears before the interval. Mexborough were rarely in the second half, but from breakaways Coleman and Bolan scored in the last twelve  minutes.

The Frickley forwards gave a poor display, missing chances galore by their poor marksmanship. Fleetwood (inside-right) was outstanding for Mexborough.
