Four Generations Of Mexborough Family

The group reproduced above shows the four generations of a well-known Mexborough family, of which the head is Mr. T. Hoyle, Park Road, Mexborough.

Mr. Hoyle is on the right of the photograph, and on the left is his eldest daughter, Mrs. A. Smith, 30, Adwick Road, Mexborough. In the centre is the Rev. A. Smith, her eldest son, who is a Unitarian Minister at Rochdale, and the baby is his daughter, two-months’ old Joan Smith.

Mr. T. Hoyle, who was born 79 years ago at Tickhill, has lived in Mexborough about sixty years, and, until he gave it up some nine years ago, kept a confectionery shop in Main Street. Mrs. A. Smith is Mexborough born and bred, and so is her son, who, however, completed his education at a London school and at Somerville College, Manchester. His first appointment was at Burnley, and he left to go to Rochdale two years ago.

Of his three brothers, two are serving in the Royal Corps of Signals, one, Frank, being on foreign service in Palestine.
